Hautes-Pyrénées: Land of culture of well-being

With unique sites in the world

Our region can boast a whole host of famous destinations with the Midi-Pyrénées Grand Sites label.

The most famous of them all is Lourdes. The town is cosmopolitan and magical, mythical and legendary, thanks to the young shepherdess who saw the Virgin Mary here on 18 occasions. Since then Lourdes has been a centre of faith, attracting thousands of pilgrims in good or poor health.

Groups, families and individual visitors from all over the world come to pray at the Massabielle Grotto, and to visit the nearby Pyrenean sites.

  • Bernadette's House
  • Lourdes Museum
  • Musée Grévin
  • Petit Lourdes Museum
  • The castle and museum of Pyrenean arts and traditions
  • The Pic du Jer with its funicular railway and a wonderful view over the summits of the Pyrenees
  • On the outskirts of Lourdes, the Lac de Lourdes with its summer swimming pool and 18-hole golf course.

Magical landscapes, breathtaking panoramas… Everything is on hand in a protected setting, along with stories, people, flora and fauna to discover during your stay.

  • Gavarnie and its cirque is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site
  • Cauterets - Pont d’Espagne and the Route des Cascades with the Gaube Lake. From here you can see the Vignemale glacier
  • The Pic du Midi and its cable car at the foot of the ski resort of La Mongie.
  • Bétharram, between Lourdes and Pau, with its famous shrine and caves

If you feel like crossing the mountain border to do some shopping, then don't miss the Col du Portalet in the Béarn region, Arnégui, near Saint Jean Pied de Port or Dancharia and Ibardin in the Basque country in all seasons.

Near Val d’Aran, you can combine a visit to the border town of Bossost with the famous Saint Bertrand de Comminges abbatial church in Haute-Garonne.

Get away from it all with a trip to the French Basque country. Biarritz, Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and Hendaye are on the road to San Sebastian in Spain, just two hours away from your hotel.

For keen cyclists, the Cols of Tourmalet, Soulor, L'Aubisque and L'Aspin are all famous landmarks to see, no matter how long your stay.

A victory in the Tour de France is often decided in our region.

The Lourdes Hôtels Pelerinages group is a chance to enjoy the comfort of our hotels and to take on the world's finest mountain climbs.
